Augmentation Mammaplasty (Breast Implants)

Dr. Palma usually
prefers the trans-axillary approach for inserting breast implants,
which results in ZERO scars on the breast. He has been using this
technique for over 15 years with excellent patient satisfaction.
Although not all patients are candidates for this approach, it is an
option for most patients.
The trans-axillary approach
utilizes a very small incision in the axilla (under-arm or armpit)
to perform the entire procedure. After a few months, the resulting
scar blends in and becomes difficult to see even when the person
lifts their arms up. Please visit our Photo Gallery to see typical
scars. Breast

Likewise, whenever possible, Dr.
Palma prefers to insert the implants behind the Pectoralis Major
Muscle. This results in a more natural look with fewer
post-operative complications.
The issue of post-operative
pain, which can be a bit scary for some patients, has been addressed
by Dr. Palma and his staff so that now most patients have minimal
discomfort. Long acting local anesthetics are left around the
implants right after surgery and are replaced via special catheters
on a daily basis for the first few days after surgery, making the
post-operative experience much more comfortable.
As of May,
2009, Dr. Palma has been approved as a Principal Investigator by the
FDA to insert the ”Ideal Implant”, a new type of saline-filled
breast implant which offers the first truly innovative technology in
breast implants in the last 20 years. He is one of only a handful of
surgeons in the USA approved to insert these new
implants.
Various choices are available in breast implant
surgery. All of these choices will be discussed by Dr. Palma
personally with each patient at the pre-surgical visit. The best
options for each individual patient will be decided by the patient
with Dr. Palma’s advice. The patient will be in control throughout
the decision-making process.
